YOUTH PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

I just wanted to share some of our experiences from the meeting with our young men this Saturday. It was such an enjoyable and rewarding experience. One could sense that this was something that has been on the hearts of everyone for a very long time.

Because of all the negative media we are bombarded with on a daily basis, most of our mindsets were of the nature that trying to save our young men was a lost cause. That’s why it's so important to get the information first hand.

Several young men showed up to share their insights on the challenges confronting our youth in current times.

We began our session by asking the young men to do the talking and we would do the listening. It was such a joy for us to discover that our young men have the same issues and needs that we had when we were at that age.

We were led to believe that there were generation gaps between ourselves and our young men.

As they talked, our misguided illusions began to dissipate. The pressing areas where they needed the most support were job opportunities, recreational opportunities and adult male guidance and mentoring. We closed the meeting by making a commitment to start providing support in these areas.
